CRYSTAL LAKE - June 2010 NEWS UPDATE
from CLCA President - Bill Lee

July 1, 2010

Happy Canada Day! It is hard to believe July has arrived. The month of June produced 138 mm of rainfall in our garden’s rain gauge. That is almost 5.5 inches. Our lake level continues to creep upwards. No water has been taken from the lake as of yet as the areas south of us have also been receiving lots of precipitation.

CLCA’S AGM: The meeting was well attended with over 100 interested people. The minutes are posted on our website. The results of the votes are also posted on our website. As Interim President, and on behalf of our Association, on June 15th, I presented the results re: boathouses and septic systems inspections to the GCH Council at their regular meeting.

CAUTION: Lindsay, at the Crystal Lake Transfer Station, has asked me to post the following message. There have been reports of person(s) breaking into unlocked vehicles within our area. A building at the dump was also broken into recently. The OPP have been notified. Please lock your vehicles as well as your buildings. Also, be observant as to any suspicious activity and/or vehicles. Be a good neighbor and check nearby properties as well.

REMINDERS: Let’s have a safe and enjoyable summer! Please take time to read over some suggestions below.

• Burning should take place between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. A fire permit is required for all burning with the exception of small campfires used for warmth or food. Fire permits are free of charge and are available at the Fire Hall or the Crystal Lake Transfer Station or the Township Office.
• Know your 911 number. If you rent your cottage, please make sure your tenants know the 911 number and contact numbers.
• All rock shoals on Crystal Lake are not marked! A group of dedicated volunteers place our orange buoys out each May 24th weekend and pick them up each Thanksgiving weekend.
• Be sure to have your Boater’s Card and your registration on board with you when boating on Crystal Lake this summer. If you are an angler, be sure to have your fishing license as well.
• Watch your wake! The law states that you must be 30m (100 feet) from shore for skiing, tubing, or wakeboarding/wakeskating .
• Watch your speed! This applies not only on the water but also on our cottage roads.
• Be considerate of fellow cottagers when it comes to noise and also lights. Everyone is aware how sound travels across water but bright lights also reflect great distances across water.
• Watch for baby loon(s). Keep your distance. If the adults are getting excited, you are too close!
• We are blessed with a mullitude of wildlife in and around Crystal Lake. Please drive carefully and be on the lookout for deer, moose, partridge, turtles, and rabbits to name a few of the animals that may be near our cottage roads.
• Take care of your garbage and recyclables. Take these items to the transfer station at the posted days and times. Be sure that all items are secured as not to fall or blow out en route to the dump.
• Secure your garbage at your property to protect it from raccoons and/or black bears.
• Help keep our water quality at a high standard. Be sure your septic system is functioning properly. Refrain from bathing and/or washing your hair in our Lake regardless of what type of soap is being used.
