CRYSTAL LAKE JULY UPDATE- FRIDAY, JULY 30TH, 2010

Greetings and welcome to the Civic Holiday Weekend on Crystal Lake. The weather forecast looks very promising. Drive safely on our cottage roads and our lake, please.
LAKE LEVELS:

To date, according to our garden rain gauge, July has produced 100 mm of rain (4 inches). Up until last weekend, our water levels were within 10cm (4 inches) of normal high water levels. Last weekend, one log was removed- the first since they were put back.

BOAT HOUSES/GCH COUNCIL:
On Tuesday, July 13th 2010, the GCH Council held a public meeting to consider textual amendments to Zoning By-Law 85-94. The Council Chamber was packed to overflowing. At one point, twenty-five citizens were attempting to follow the proceedings from the lobby. Some were there re: the Boat House proposed amendment. Some were there re: a new quarry at Flynns’ Corners and some were there for both topics.

As a result of the Public Meeting, the following resolutions were passed:

• Moved by: Deputy Reeve Pearson Seconded by: Councillor Clarkson
  That By-law 82010-66 (minimum water yard setbacks) be deferred so that Council can review the public comments received and gather additional information. Note: This By-law proposed amendment was to increase the minimum water yard setback from 21.5 m (70 feet) to 30 m (98.43 feet) for any type of building.

• Moved by: Councillor Franzen Seconded by: Councillor Clarkson
  That the side lot line setback for boathouses remain at 50 feet. This resolution was carried. All three councilors, the Deputy Reeve and the Reeve voted in support of this resolution. The proposed amendment was to establish new minimum side lot line setback provisions for boathouses by reducing the minimum setback from 15 m (50 feet) to 1.5 m (5 feet).
