CRYSTAL LAKE Dec 2010 NEWS UPDATE
from CLCA President Bill Lee

CRYSTAL LAKE DECEMBER UPDATE- January 2nd, 2011 On behalf of your CLCA Executive, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and all the best in 2011. It poured rain almost all New Year’s Day, taking away most of the snow. The cooler temperatures overnight created some awesome skating conditions that will continue to improve if the temps stay below freezing and the snow stays away. As always, use caution! Be careful where you go on our Lake as not all the ice surface is of the same thickness. As of today, the ice thickness in Clear Bay was about 20 cm (8 inches). The Holiday Season brought a few more cottagers back to the Lake to join the few permanent Crystal Lakers. It is always good to see cottages decorated with Christmas lights and ornaments. As 2011 has just begun, it is often a time to think about and make resolutions- you know, those goals or promises usually made one night, to be broken shortly thereafter. However, here is an easy New Year’s resolution that you can keep. As a Crystal Lake cottager, you can resolve to become a member of your Lake Association or renew your membership for 2011. You can even upgrade this resolution by joining the CLCA Executive. As your Interim President, I know that the President position is for sure available! 2011 is an election year at our Annual General Meeting. This meeting will be held at the Galway Hall on Sunday, June 5th beginning at 10 o’clock sharp. Mark this date and please plan to attend. The Wildlife Inventory has started again for 2011. A Brown Creeper was spotted today going up our big pine tree. It is a member of the nuthatch family. Otter tracks were seen near some beaver ponds as were wolf tracks. Believe it or not, while skating today, I found 3 frogs frozen on top of the ice! (Talk about flash freeze!)
