CRYSTAL LAKE COTTAGERS- APRIL UPDATE - May 3, 2011
Greetings!
I guess this is my ‘Penultimate’ Crystal Lake Update. The Spring 2011 Newsletter has been mailed out and many of our cottagers may already have received it. This is an election year for officers and directors at our AGM. My term as Interim President ends at the AGM on June 5th and I am not seeking to serve another two year term as President. I think that the CLCA needs a fresh face with fresh ideas. I thank all those cottagers that support our Association.
Crystal Lake is approaching ‘full’ as all the logs are in except the half-log. What a rainy April! There should be lots of May flowers if the old saying is true. I put our garden rain gauge out around Easter weekend (it would have been frozen every day prior to Easter). There was 70 mm (almost 3 inches of precipitation) in it when dumped on Saturday.
Wild Weather Part 3:
Another wind storm rocked Crystal Lake last Thursday (April 29th). Many trees came down, including some huge ones. Power was knocked out, in some cases, for many hours. On Queen’s Line (off Galway Road), a tree took down a power line and caused a minor fire. Most places had branches strewn across their laneways, yards, and decks. Our neighbour’s fishing boat, although moored to the dock, was flipped over, its propeller sticking up in the air!
LOST AND FOUND: Still under the topic of wild weather, there may be missing items floating around the Lake. I know that one lady is missing her fishing boat. A yellow paddle boat has also been found. Lawn furniture may also be floating. The best thing you can do is, if you find something floating by, leave it at your dock or along the shore where it is visible. You can also use the CLCA website to communicate missing or found items.
2011 Census:
Crystal Lake and the rest of Canada is in the process of receiving the 2A (short form) Census handout. If your dwelling on Crystal Lake is a seasonal residence, then fill out the form according to the card that accompanies the 2A form. The Census not only counts people but it also counts dwellings.
